Urban Design Group Principal to Perform at Humane Society Benefit

Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) September 07, 2012

Prominent southern blues artist the Ken Rhyne Band will perform at the celebration marking the end of the Humane Society of Jackson Countys (HSJC) Ride Like the Animals event on Saturday, September 8, 2012.

Ride Like the Animals is the HSJCs inaugural pet festival, concert and motorcycle ride. It will be held from 1:00 pm 7:00 pm (rain or shine) at Crows Lake in Jefferson, GA. The event will also include pet demonstrations, pet services, a childrens area with inflatables, food, and a tailgate-themed beer garden.

The event is intended to raise funds and awareness for the creation of Jackson Countys first animal shelter. Currently, the HSJC operates through an all-foster home network. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Raise the Woof campaign, which was launched in early 2011.

Rhyne is an Atlanta-based Principal of Urban Design Group, which is currently providing pro bono architectural services for the planning and design of the future facility.

The staff and volunteers at HSJC are incredibly passionate about this vision, said Rhyne. Its a privilege to use my musical and design talents in support of their cause.

The Jackson County Board of Commissioners voted unanimously in June 2012 to negotiate a long-term property lease with the HSJC, allowing the organization to construct a shelter on a 15-acre site owned by the county.

About the Humane Society of Jackson County:

Established in 1998, the Humane Society of Jackson County was the vision of native Marjorie Butler, who worked with Bob and Sandy Wells to make her dream a reality. A low- and no-cost spay neuter program for low-income families was started in 2006, and in February of 2007, the group received its Department of Agriculture License and began rescuing and placing homeless animals. In 2008, volunteers launched a courtesy placement program to assist with animals requiring re-homing that the group could not accommodate, since it currently operates through an all-foster home network. In 2011, the organization launched its capital campaign to raise funds for the shelter and opened the ReTail Thrift Store, located in downtown Jefferson behind the Crawford W. Long Museum. HSJC is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and donations are tax deductible. Community meetings are held the 2nd Tuesday of the 2nd month of each quarter at locations around the county.
