Colorados Top Research Universities Team with Cleantech Fellows Institute to Offer Cleantech Executive Accelerator

DENVER, CO (PRWEB) June 18, 2012

Colorados public universities are teaming with the Colorado Cleantech Industry Associations newest program to offer executive training in clean technology ventures to individuals outside of the industry. The Cleantech Fellows Institute addresses a simple but bothersome problem: not enough seasoned executives in the cleantech industry. The objective of the program is to help experienced entrepreneurs and executives accelerate their transition into the cleantech sector, stimulating new venture formation, job creation and growth of the cleantech industry.

The Cleantech Fellows Institute is the first of its kind with a national focus and is accepting applications now through July 27. The program will begin in September and combines seminars, lectures, lab visits, capstone and other business planning projects within the university settings at Colorado School of Mines, Colorado State University and the University of Colorado.

Providing introductions to the national cleantech eco-system, world-class technology and a strategic understanding of the industries within cleantech to seasoned entrepreneurs is critical to venture formation, said Cleantech Fellows Institute Director Wayne Greenberg. Our unique partnerships and collaborations with the university and research community in Colorado makes the state an ideal location to promote, build and grow a successful clean technology startup.

The technologies used to develop the venture-backed companies are emerging from research laboratories at the three universities and the Department of Energys (DOE) National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL). Targeted executives are those who have built successful companies in different sectors such as aerospace, biotechnology and enterprise technology.

CUs research laboratories are developing sophisticated, clean technologies with significant market potential, said David N. Allen, CUs Associate Vice President for Technology Transfer. Combined with the leadership expertise of the executives coming into the Cleantech Fellows Institute, we believe these technologies have a high potential for success in the commercial world.

The Colorado School of Mines prides itself on educational programs based on cutting-edge emerging technologies and on real-world collaboration with leading business people as part of our instructional offering, said Will Vaughan, Director, Technology Transfer at Colorado School of Mines. Partnering with the Cleantech Fellows Institute gives us another opportunity to work at the nexus of academia and entrepreneurship.

The key to the programs success will be the executives exposure to commercially-ready technologies from Colorado sources. Working with the universities and energy laboratories, as well as a team of cleantech industry insiders, the executives will develop a deep understanding of the technologies being developed at each institution. Each executive will select a technology that sparks their interest and plan a capstone project to present in January 2013.

As CSUs chief advocate for research activities and the promotion of CSU technology into the marketplace, I am excited to be a part of this cleantech era of technology development and commercialization, said Bill Farland, Vice President of Research at Colorado State University. CSU is working to ensure that our most significant innovations are getting out into the marketplace to the people who need them and our partnership with the Fellows Institute supports that mission.

The Cleantech Fellows Institute was created by the Colorado Cleantech Industry Association and is supported by NREL and Advanced Energy Economy (AEE), a national business organization of which CCIA is a founding chapter.

Information on how to apply for the program is located at cleantechfellows.com.

University of New England to Offer Students New Gateway to Global Opportunities With Morocco Campus

Portland, Maine (PRWEB) June 25, 2012

University of New England Chair of the Board, Mark Doiron, and Associate Provost for Global Initiatives, Professor Anouar Majid, signed an agreement Friday, June 22, that formalizes UNEs plans to globalize the university with a campus in Morocco. The UNE delegation included President Danielle Ripich and Mike Morel, former chair of the UNE Board.

Doiron and Majid signed the papers on the leafy campus of the American School of Tangier (AST), the oldest American school in Morocco, where UNEs newest campus is slated to open a year from now.

President Ripich states: UNE is preparing students to be innovators, leaders and problem-solvers in our increasingly global society. By establishing a presence in the Moroccan city of Tangier, we are creating the cultural and educational opportunities that make this possible.

Associate Provost Majid said that UNEs presence in Tangier will add a new chapter to the historic friendship that unites the United States and Morocco, and that such a project will build the foundations of a much-needed dialogue between the West and the Muslim world.

U.S. policymakers have been struggling to reach out to the Arab and Muslim worlds, said Majid, but we, at UNE, have decided to live up to our ideals and invest in friendship. Our presence in Tangier, the meeting point of Europe, Africa, and the Arab world, will build trust and allow our students to discover multiple cultures and languages at once.

UNEs new campus is within walking distance to downtown Tangier, the Mediterranean Sea, and the citys beaches, hotels, soon-to-be built marina, and major cultural activities. The city of Tangier is the historic gateway to Morocco, home to an international contingent of painters and writers, and is now emerging as one of the major economic and cultural hubs in the country.

UNEs Tangier campus will house academic programming as well as student and staff residences in buildings that reflect both Moroccos traditional architecture and the high-quality standards of UNEs facilities in Maine.

UNEs unique program is offered at no additional cost to students. UNE students can choose to spend a semester or a full academic year in Morocco, living on campus or with host families while taking courses in the sciences, humanities and languages. Moreover, students can stay on track with their majors curricular requirements by taking lab courses and other classes onsite or online. From Tangier, students can travel to other parts of Morocco, connect with UNEs programs in Spain, and explore other European countries and cities.

To strengthen UNEs presence in Morocco and the region, President Danielle Ripich and Professor Houdaifa Ameziane, the President of University Abdelmalek Essaadi, the main public university system in the province of Tangier, also signed an agreement to explore faculty exchanges, research collaborations and common projects.

With its diverse geography, Morocco is at the crossroads of civilizations and languages. The main cultures of the Mediterranean basin from the Phoenician to the Muslim, the Arab and the Berber, the European and the African have mingled in Morocco to create a colorful and rich society, famous for its world-class cuisine, its kaftans, and its legendary hospitality. A stable and mature nation, Morocco offers an ideal setting to examine some of the major issues facing the world today, such as water scarcity, the future of energy, and the tensions between Islam and the West.

Philips Announces CX50 xMATRIX, the Worlds First Portable Echocardiography System to Offer Real Time 3D Transesophageal Echo (Live 3D TEE)

Andover, MA (PRWEB) July 02, 2012

At the 23rd annual scientific sessions of the American Society of Echocardiography (ASE) in National Harbor, Md., Royal Philips Electronics (AEX: PHI, NYSE: PHG) announced the new CX50 xMATRIX, the worlds first portable ultrasound to offer Philips industry leading Live 3D TEE. Previously only available with Philips iE33 xMATRIX premium echocardiography solution, Live 3D TEE enables 3D visualization of the cardiac structure and function as well as new perspectives of the heart in real time, enabling better patient care.

Since its launch in 2008, Philips CX50 CompactXtreme ultrasound system has been providing the flexibility of a portable system, while delivering the imaging performance of a premium ultrasound solution. With Live 3D TEE now available on the CX50 xMATRIX, interventional teams can more easily access important clinical information and visualizations for complex interventional procedures. For clinical efficiency the compact Live 3D TEE transducer is designed to be shared between the CX50 and iE33 xMATRIX systems. Because of this, departments should be able to reduce the number of TEE transducers that must be purchased, tracked, cleaned, and stored.

The first thing the staff noticed was the incredibly small size of the CX50 system, which is very useful in our cath lab where space is at a premium, said Dr. David Liang, MD, PhD, Associate Professor of Medicine and Director, Marfan Syndrome and Aortic Disorders at Stanford University. In clinical evaluations the Live 3D TEE image quality is excellent and, with the new user interface, 3D imaging is really intuitive. In imaging TAVR procedures with the CX50, I am able to easily switch back and forth between 2D and 3D during the critical time when we are positioning the valve.

The CX50 xMATRIX is a uniquely powerful all-in-one imaging solution for structural heart disease (SHD) repairs in cath labs and hybrid cardiac operating rooms, offering Live 3D TEE plus an architecture designed to support future capabilities including advanced fluoro integration (EchoNavigator, 510(k) pending) with Philips Allura systems.

Along with the new CX50 xMATRIX, Philips announced the Vision 2013 upgrade for existing CX50 cardiology customers. Vision 2013 includes:
