Global Engineering Services Industry Market Research Report Now Available from IBISWorld

Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 22, 2012

The global market for engineering services consists of the work performed by consultant engineering firms along with the in-house services undertaken by construction contractors, manufacturers, government agencies and utility owners. According to IBISWorld industry analyst Anthony Kelly, the industry’s performance is principally driven by the trends into construction, manufacturing and mining developments (particularly in the large industrial economies) and increasingly from work in the fields of technological development and the sustainable environment. Over the past decade the industry has expanded its operations by broadening across a wider range of multidisciplinary services, by the trend towards globalization and through the outsourcing of services by public authorities and major corporations.

The Global Engineering Services industry is one of the largest professional service industries, generating revenue of about $ 530 billion in 2012 (up 3.0% on the previous year), and employing 2.9 million people. Industry value added currently totals $ 318 billion, or 0.6% of the world’s GDP, two-thirds of which represents payments to employees and the balance the industry’s operating profit. The industry’s performance deteriorated during the late 2000s with the onset of recession in several of the largest developed economies and the subsequent decline in construction and industrial production. Despite the current improvement, industry revenue is estimated to average subdued growth by 0.5% per annum over the five years through 2012.

International trade represents a significant share of industry activity (10.6% of revenue in 2012) and is mainly confined to relatively few large-scale consulting engineering firms that are capable of operating outside national boundaries, said Kelly. A feature of the industry that has accompanied globalization has been the amalgamation of the larger players to achieve scale economies, broaden the market and strengthen the human and financial resources (consistent with the trend evident in other knowledge-based industries such as accounting, law, advertising and architecture).

The Global Engineering Services industry has a low concentration of ownership, with the four largest companies accounting for about 6.0% of annual industry revenue. The largest players in the global market for engineering services include URS Corporation, SNC-Lavalin Group, Bechtel Group, Jacobs Engineering Group, Fluor Corporation, AECOM Technology Corporation, CH2M HILL Companies, WS Atkins plc, and Altran Technologies. Despite this low concentration, there has been a trend over the past decade for the consolidation of the operations of many of the world’s leading consulting engineering firms, through mergers or strategic alliances. These large-scale, multidisciplined, multinational companies are well placed to win contracts in most markets. Minnesota Start-up Perfects the Cardboard Playhouse

Minneapolis, MN (PRWEB) June 15, 2012

Beezer, Playhouses first prototype, was built about 26 years ago when Beezer founder Ben Lindaman was just 6 years old. The idea lay dormant for about a quarter century until the next generation family members rekindled an old creative spark and in 2011 Beezer Playhouses LLC was formed.

The idea is simple what if there was a cardboard playhouse that was just as much fun as the ones nearly all of us constructed when we were kids; but this one was durable, better looking, fun to decorate, and easy to take down and store?

With this insight, Ben and his wife Julie thought back on all the fun they had and the issues they encountered when they were kids playing with homemade cardboard boxes and began problem solving each of them one by one.

In a traditional cardboard playhouse, the doors and windows were always the weakest link so we solved that by creating cute plastic windows and door frame that give the playhouse the structure needed to withstand playtime and also give the playhouse the cute factor needed to be a lasting fixture in a familys home, said Ben.

As the design progressed, they realized to have enough space to be fun for the kids, the playhouse needed to be fairly large, which meant that parents would need to be able to easily take it down. This led to the design of the Beezerbits fasteners, which allow the playhouse to be quickly disassembled and conveniently stored in its carrying case that is designed to fit underneath a single bed.

Beezerbits are the cardboard fasteners that I was dreaming of when I was a kid. I never had a way to firmly attach the walls and roof of the playhouses I made so I always had to tape or glue them. Then when it was time to take the house down, it would always get ruined. Beezerbits are plastic quarter turn fasteners that hold the house together and allow you to set it up and take it down as many times as you want.

And finally the Lindamans wanted to ensure the playhouses encouraged a creative learning environment so they developed a set of custom sized decals full of dozens of letters and decorations to allow kids to customize their house; and they even went a step further by making an all-white interior so the walls can be colored and decorated the way they want.

Half of the fun of a playhouse is being able to color on the walls, Julie says, with a plastic playhouse thats not an option. Its also nice that if youve completely decorated the walls you have and want to start fresh, you can replace just the walls and reuse the plastic windows, doorframe, and fasteners. Its really a blast for the kids!

With the playhouses designed, suppliers identified, and the website complete, the Robbinsdale couple transformed their garage into an assembly line and began building and shipping the playhouses last December; and now theyre focused on the 5th C, the one they didnt identify early in the venture.

Communication spreading the word about Beezer Playhouses and getting people familiar with our products and our brand. Thats our focus for 2012, said co-founder Julie.

You can see Beezer Playhouses every Thursday night June 14th through the 26th from 6-9PM at White Bear Lake MarketFest, where children can test out the playhouse and parents can see how it works. You can also find out more information on Beezer Playhouses at http://www.beezerplayhouses.com or http://www.facebook.com/beezerplayhouses.
